Getting ready for your climb means packing the right items. The natural limestone terraces are slippery, and you will get completely soaked. Here is exactly what you need to bring to the park for a safe and comfortable visit.

What to wear to Dunn's River Falls?

Wear a swimsuit under comfortable clothes and closed-toe water shoes.

Put your swimsuit on before you arrive to save time. Bring a change of dry clothes for the ride back. A quick-dry or microfiber towel is highly recommended for drying off after the climb or a swim at the beach.

Do I need water shoes for Dunn's River Falls?

Yes, climbers must wear closed-toe water shoes.

The rubber grip soles prevent you from slipping on the wet rocks and algae. You can rent or buy them on-site, but it is best to bring your own pair. Flip-flops and bare feet are not allowed on the wet climb.

How do I protect my phone and camera?

Use a waterproof phone pouch with a neck lanyard or a waterproof action camera.

You need your hands free to hold hands in the human chain with your guide. Keep your phone secured around your neck. Do not bring regular cameras on the wet climb, as they will get damaged by the cascading water.

Are there lockers at Dunn's River Falls?

Yes, locker rentals are available for $10 USD.

You will receive a $3 USD refund when you return the key. Use the locker to store your dry clothes, towels, and valuables while you climb the 600-foot waterfall.

What else should I pack in my day bag?

Bring reef-safe sunscreen, a waterproof dry bag, and cash.

Apply your sunscreen well before arriving at the park. Bring cash in USD or JMD to pay for lockers, tip your guides, and buy items at the Craft Market. A waterproof dry bag is useful for keeping your gear dry near the splash pad or beach.

Can I carry a bag on the waterfall climb?

You should not bring bags on the wet climb.

Even a small backpack will get in the way. You need both hands to navigate the natural limestone steps and to hold hands with your group. Leave your belongings in a rented locker or with your tour vehicle.

Questions travellers ask

Can I wear flip-flops to climb the falls?

No. Climbers must wear closed-toe water shoes for grip. Flip-flops will fall off in the rushing water and do not provide enough traction on the limestone terraces.

Should I wear my swimsuit on the ride there?

Yes. Wear your swimsuit under your clothes to save time upon arrival. You can easily change into your dry clothes after you finish the climb.

Can I bring sunglasses on the climb?

It is not recommended unless they have a secure strap around your neck. The water rushes quickly and loose sunglasses can easily fall into the pools.
