Families visit Dunn's River Falls daily, but the main waterfall climb is not for everyone. You need to assess your child's physical ability before starting the 1.5-hour ascent. If they are too small, the park provides other ways to enjoy the water.

What is the height requirement for children?

Kids must be at least 36 inches (91.4 cm) tall to participate in the wet climb.

Park guides strictly enforce this rule for safety. The water pressure and deep pools make the climb dangerous for toddlers. If your child meets the height rule, they can join the guided ascent up the 600-foot (180-meter) terraced falls.

Is the waterfall climb safe for kids?

Yes, if they follow the guide's instructions and wear proper water shoes.

The limestone rocks are slippery and there are deep drop-offs. Children must hold hands in the human chain and step exactly where the guide indicates. The climb takes 1 to 1.5 hours, which can tire out younger kids. Ensure they wear closed-toe water shoes for proper grip.

What if my child is too small to climb?

The park features a Central Gardens and Splash Pad built specifically for young children.

This play area provides a safe water experience away from the rushing waterfall. Families can also relax at Dunn's River Beach, where the river meets the Caribbean Sea. Alternatively, use the Dry Route staircase to walk alongside the waterfall and watch older family members climb.

Non-resident adults pay $25 USD. Jamaican resident children pay a discounted rate of J$500. Many families choose to book a guided tour that includes hotel transfers and entry fees in one price.

What should kids wear to the falls?

Children need a swimsuit and closed-toe water shoes with rubber soles.

Water shoes are mandatory for the wet climb. You can bring your own or rent them at the park. Apply reef-safe sunscreen before arriving. Bring a quick-dry towel and a change of dry clothes for the ride back to your hotel.

When is the best time to visit with kids?

Arrive right at the 8:30 AM opening time to avoid heavy crowds.

The falls get very busy when cruise ships dock in Ocho Rios. Arriving early means less waiting and a calmer environment for children. The park closes at 4:30 PM daily.
